This article was submitted by Gerard Bijnsdorp to the Daily Herald.
Mr Bijnsdorp, is a regular contributor to the Daily Herald, and is known by many on the island as "The Unpaid Advisor to the St Maarten Voter".
According to Mr Bijnsdorp, the below article, which criticizes the DP, was never published.
In fact, since he submitted this particular letter to the Daily Herald, they have refused to print any more of his opinions.
So in the spirit of fairness, I am willing to print what the Daily Herald refuses to touch:

Unpaid advice to the voter

Today's election is costly and unnecessary, so I do not yet know if I am going to vote. If I go out to vote, I will not vote for D.P. politicians.
While enriching themselves, they created an overweight island, where our students do not want to come back to.
Education, infrastructure, immigration, health care, GEBE, it is all a mess.
I hear Mike Ferrier shouting: "But Gerard, I cleaned up my party". Sorry Mike, Louis was framed by his "friends", Theo ran away, and the only thing you did was doing away with Marietje, who may have been a little bit naughty, but who compared to other D.P. ers was a pretty decent girl. What to think of the D.P. commissioners who pressed R.O.B. civil servants to sign illegal building permits in a hurry?
The civil servants got the blame, while in fact government had the responsibility. The rumors about R.O.B. all proved to be true.
There are as many rumors about bribery concerning the building and financing of the new government building (the white elephant). Why were those rumors not investigated by the SOAB? Why did the D.P. government never give the financial administration of this building to the newspaper "Today"? If the D.P. has nothing to hide, what is it afraid of? O.K., Mike "cleaned" his party, but he only used one bottle of Windex. He should have used a gallon of Clorox!
The next meeting of the DP, after the election, will probably be at the Emerald Funeral Home, with Mike, not as cleaner, but as caretaker.
My not voting for the DP has nothing to do with Miguel Arrindell's remark that there are two homosexuals on the D.P. list. If Mike and his whole DP were homosexuals, I would vote for them if they were doing a good job.
If there is a homosexual who can solve the problems of GEBE, let him come forward. Better gay current, than heterosexual blackouts.

I talked with politicians of our political parties, telling them that the root of all that goes wrong in St Maarten is overdevelopement, and that I would vote for the party that would call for a building stop. I do not see that in any party program, so I should vote.
But............
If, at the last moment, I still decide to vote, it will probably be for Gracita.
I think she has a great, fresh team. Many good women in it. Women are the backbone of St Maarten. They work hard, they do better in school than men in the absence of Caribbean fathers, they do a great job as educators.
My advice for St Maarten voters: vote PPA or NA.
Together they can make a better future for St Maarten.

GERARD BIJNSDORP,
UNPAID ADVISOR TO THE ST MAARTEN VOTER.

Dear administrator of St. maartennews.com

You must be welcomed as a 'new kid' on the block as another source of information for the people of this island and beyond.
Sites like yours are very much needed on this island.
Especially for allowing for persons to post their letters to the editor, whether the editor agrees with its contents or not, once they stay within the boundaries of what is ethical.
In that regards, you are to be commended for having posted on your site, the letter to the editor of Mr. Gerard BIJNSDORP which was allegedly refused by a local news paper outlet.
For the record.
Mr. BIJNSDORP is no friend of mine perse and he has in the past made it one of his favorite pastime activities to train his satirical comments on my person.
However, I never questioned his rights to do such, because I respect the fundamental human rights of freedom of expression for everyone, including Mr. BIJNSDORP.
In addition, I have a great respect and admiration for Mr. BIJNSDORP's courage and outspokenness and to do such without hiding his identity, like too many of our people engage in.
In this regard, I consider Mr. BIJNSDORP a role-model for many of our own people in our community.
I therefore once more recommend you for allowing him the right to express his views on your site and wish to inform him hereby as well, that our site www.stmartinnation.org is also available to him in making use of his democratic right of freedom of expression.
With respect,
Leopold JAMES,
native-indigenous st. Martiner without apologies

Thank you very much for the welcome.
I too believe that there is freedom of press, and freedom of speech. And Mr. Bijnsdorp, certainly has that right.
